3 Hair Products I Always Travel With

Happy Friday! Haircare is a frequent topic of conversation around here and I wanted to share with you guys three products I always travel with. That’s right — they are always in my suitcase no matter the trip.

We’ve all been there. You’re at the airport and realize you forgot something at home. Whether it’s socks, your iPhone lightning cord or your curling iron, it’s a pretty crummy feeling. I consider myself to be on top of things when it comes to packing, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve left the house and left something behind. After making those mistakes a few times, I’ve now learned to pack the essentials first. And by essentials, I mean hair products, makeup, and skincare.

These are the three products always in my beauty bag.

Hair product must-haves when traveling:

DRY SHAMPOO

This may seem like a no-brainer, but honestly, so many people still have yet to try a dry shampoo or find one that works for them. I feel like I have tried nearly every brand on the market, but I have slowly accumulated a few favorites. Here I used Jet Lag Invisible Dry Shampoo by IGK which has a nice clean smell and a powder finish (I have to have a powder finish or else it doesn’t work in my hair. Don’t worry, it doesn’t show up once brushed out). I also am loving the Briogeo Charcoal + Biotin Dry Shampoo (natural and good for your scalp, full review here) and Bumble And Bumble Prêt‑A‑Powder. I highly recommend giving any of those a try.

Editor’s tip: Use at night and sleep with your hair in a top knot or messy bun. Don’t brush out until morning. I use this 100% boar bristle brush and the combo really leaves my hair feeling clean and eliminates any oil.

HAIR AND BODY OIL

You guys know I am OUAI obsessed. This is the one hair product (besides Oribe) that I continue to buy over and over again. That’s how you know it’s good, right? The OUAI Rose Hair and Body Oil is a light multi-purpose oil. I use this when my hair is wet or dry and it does not weigh it down. I focus on the ends or “ears and down”. This product is nice because you can also use it on your body. My skin always gets so dry when traveling, so this is nice to use on my hands without feeling too oily or greasy.

Editor’s tip: The original OUAI Hair Oil is a little more intense than the Rose formula. If your hair is really dry, coarse or damaged, I would suggest the original OUAI Hair Oil. These mini kits are a great starting point if you are wanting to get introduced to the brand. That is how I started and now I am a devout customer.

HAIRSPRAY

I have to use hairspray to give my hair some extra texture and hold. I am very picky though — I can’t use anything too heavy, sticky or crunchy. I look for a hairspray that is brushable, dry and comes out in a fine mist. The OUAI Memory Mist checks all of those boxes and it helps protect against heat. It gives you natural bounce and movement. None of that crunchy, sticky mess. I also love the OUAI Medium Hairspray (used it here) and find that it gives a tad more hold, but still a brushable finish.

What do you always include in your travel beauty bag? Anything new I should try? xx Ashley

Ouai memory spray is the worst product I’ve ever tried in my life! I tried it because I love your recommendations but this spray isn’t for everyone! My hair burned off where I sprayed it and used my flat iron! My flat iron has this residue from the memory spray that caused my flat iron to not heat up anymore! So, now I’m bald in the front! But I do love Ouai’s rose oil and medium hairspray. Have you ever tried Kerastase Laque Dentelle? It’s the best hairspray in the world!! It’s flexible hold, holds my curls better than anything and feels like nothing in my hair! Love your post!

Omg, I’m so sorry that happened to you! That sounds tragic! I had a similar experience with a CHI product and I used a deep conditioner, which helped repair my hair. I actually used the Kerastase one with the orange lid, I can’t remember the name of it off the top of my head. Yes, I have tried that hairspray and its a great product! xx, Ashley

    Hi Ashley
Thanks a lot for sharing such an informative article about 3 hair products for travel. I love travel. I have read your valuable page and gotten much information and now my confusion has cleared. But I have two little question that, how days later will I use shampoo in a week traveling time? And which foods will I avoid for my hair grows? Could you please suggestion me? Then I will be benefited. Anyway, Keep it up………..

I’m intrigued with OUAI Rose Hair and Body Oil. It looks nice and cute. I also always bring hair oil everytime I travel. I use Morrocan Argan Oil everytime for my hair and body, got it from Virginic (https://virginic.com/collections/oils/products/moroccan-argan-oil). I can also vouch for this brand because it’s really good quality and has nice packaging as well.
