Confused with The Face Roller Trend? This Will Help.

If you’re anything like me, you’re intrigued by the face roller trend, but also confused. Between different jade rollers, ice rolling, face massagers, etc., there’s a lot happening. But the good news is that each of these can really make a difference in your skin and help with different issues. I figured it was time I got to the bottom of what each roller can do and when to use each. So today I’m sharing the ultimate guide to face rollers with you all.

Personally, I think it’s smart to have each of these rollers that I’m covering depending on what my skin is going through or what I feel like. Either way, I hope this guide is helpful! Let me know if you have any lingering questions and I’ll do my best to answer.
xx Ashley

NURSE JAMIE ROLLER

Cost
The Nurse Jamie Roller is the most expensive of the bunch, coming in at $69, but it also has a cult following and for good reason.
What it helps with
  • A double chin or sagging skin in general
  • Renewing skin and leaving it more youthful (anti-aging)
  • Uplifting and energizing skin by improving blood circulation
When and how to use it
This is probably the easiest to use in terms of “rules”. Just roll across your face or your chin/jawline in upwards motions, focusing on each area for 30-45 seconds at a time, once a day. This should take about 10 minutes if you want to cover the entire neck/face/jawline. I’ve heard a lot of people say that using this in the morning right when you wake up helps your face shape up and look more alive. You don’t need to have product on before using it. If you’re not sold, this is a good review.

ICE ROLLER

Cost
Ice rollers are the most affordable of the bunch, coming in around $10-$14. I have this steel option which stays cold for a long time. Some people also like this material better and it’s not as cold.
What it helps with
  • Minimizing pores
  • Inflammation or puffy skin
  • Tired skin (late nights working…or too many glasses of wine, just being honest here)
  • Sinus headaches (unfortunately I get these a lot and this really comes in handy)
  • Brightening skin
When and how to use it
Keep in the freezer! Just like the jade roller, you want to move in upwards outwards motions on the face. Start by rolling across the forehead and temples, up the cheeks, around the mouth, along the jaw and then down on the neck to boost lymphatic drainage and give an overall calm and cool glow to the skin. I sometimes place the roller over my eye for 10-30 seconds to cool down that area if I’m puffy or tired looking. I use at the end of my skincare routine (after face wash, toner, serum and moisturizer) or really any time of day if I don’t have makeup on. Here’s a great post on cleaning the roller. If I had to pick one, this would probably be my favorite!

JADE ROLLERS

Cost
Jade rollers are relatively affordable, usually ranging from $30-$60 depending on the brand. You just want to make sure you’re buying a higher quality roller and real jade or quartz. I like this rose quartz roller, personally, and this jade one has good reviews. A good budget-friendly alternative is this rose quartz roller, you just want to look at the verified purchase reviews. My handle broke on my original one but this one seems to have positive reviews.
What it helps with
  • Stimulating skin
  • Improves circulation
  • Skin’s elasticity
  • Inflammation or puffy skin
  • Letting your products absorb deeper into pores

I’ve actually written a post on jade rollers, so you can get more details here.

When and how to use it
After applying serum or moisturizer morning and/or night. You always want to roll this upwards and outwards when using it on your face. Using the larger side, start by rolling across the forehead and temples, up the cheeks, around the mouth, along the jaw, all moving upwards and towards your temples (side forehead or outside of your eyes). This motion helps with lymphatic drainage on the face. Use the smaller side for the area around your eyes (always being gentle) and right around your nose moving upwards. Then, once you hit the neck or under your jaw, you want to start rolling downwards towards your collarbone. This will keep the lymphatic drainage going. This has nothing to do with beauty, but I find that rolling the smaller side on my forehead temples really helps with headaches, too. This video helps.

I’ve been needing a post like this. I know you love the rose roller, but I’ve been curious about the ice one. I think that’s the one I am going to try first! 🙂
