Beauty Talk | Spring Neutrals

20150322-IMG_8043

Now that Spring is here, this warmer weather already has me wanting to change up my makeup routine and switch out some of my winter colors for some warm, neutrals tones.

For me, I have always gravitated towards a more “natural” look when it comes to makeup. I like to keep my foundation and eyes simple, and play up areas like my lashes, cheekbones and lips. This past weekend I went through my makeup to switch out some of my winter colors with more neutral and warm tones. I decided to head to Nordstrom’s Online Beauty Department (with free shipping / free returns it’s hard to pass up!) and peruse the new neutrals for Spring. I love checking out the seasons new colors and this year, I decided to add lots of ivory, pink and gold tones. They make it so easy to browse specific selections rather than hunt the entire beauty department.

Here are a few of my favorite neutrals for Spring and Summer. See below for a full review of each product!

Foundation

My first step when transitioning my makeup is finding the right shade of foundation. I usually try something a little darker than my Winter face makeup.  It’s important for me to look for something that has SPF in it. I love to be outside as much as possible during this time of year!

Eyes

On my eyes, I tried the Bobbi Brown Long Wear Cream Eyeshadow in ‘Beach Honey’. I love that it has a soft shimmer but isn’t too shiny. I like to wear it by itself, but it makes a great base to any eyeshadow look. This was my first time to try a cream eyeshadow, but after reading the reviews I couldn’t pass it up. So far, I am loving it!

I am always looking for a smooth, soft, easy to apply eyeliner. I wore MAC eyeliner years ago, and was anxious to try it again when I saw the new Technakohl Liner.  I decided to stick with ‘Graphblack’ and I really like how it makes the green in my eyes pop. Finish with your favorite mascara and you are good to go!

Bronzer + Blush

I’ve never tried the Laura Mercier ‘Mosaic’ Bloc before, but after hearing amazing things about it, I decided to test one out for myself. The cool thing about this little pallet, is it can actually be used on face, cheeks, and eyes. I was a little hesitant about the shimmer, but it’s surprisingly not that shimmery. For someone who has oily skin, that is a major plus!

I used the top three shades to contour. A little goes a long way so be sure to play around with it at first. To apply,  I used my favorite brush from NARS. It’s amazing and really helps you get great definition.

I like to keep my cheeks pink with Bobbi Brown’s Blush in ‘Sand Pink’. I’ve used her blush since high school and it’s always been a great, everyday blush. It’s flat, so there is no shimmer or extra shine. The color is also extremely pigmented so a little goes a long way. I complete the look by applying a light dusting of the light ivory triangle from the Laura Mercier Mosaic Bloc. It comes off really light and gives that perfect sun kissed glow I’m always trying to achieve.

Lips

While I love my bright lipsticks, my neutrals will always be my favorite. I can wear them year round and regardless of the occasion, I can’t go wrong. Since my lips tend to get dry, I always use lip-balm first. My favorite is the Dior Glow. It has a soft pink tint which looks great alone or paired with lipstick.

I wore Bobbi Brown ‘Monday-Sunday’ Sheer Lip Color in ‘Lilac Pink’ and mixed it with Bobbi Brown Lipgloss in ‘Almost Nude’ (the perfect nude gloss) to achieve a muted pink lip. It’s so fun for Spring and in my opinion- all year!

[…] Shop the Post: Sheinside Orange & Blue Tunic (size up, wearing a medium, almost wish I bought a large)I know ordering international can be a little intimidating, but I have had zero issues with this company. I will say, allow time for shipping. It takes about 3 weeks for it to be delivered. Also, be sure you pay attention to the size chart. […] .03 Bobbi Brown Powder Brush: I use this guy for just about everything. Loose powder, blush, bronzer, you name it. It’s a great brush and worth the price. I haven’t had to deal with any loose bristles…(yeah!). You can read more about this in my tutorial here.  […]
