Desk Job During The Holidays? Here’s How To Stay Active.

The holiday hustle is real and if you’re like me, you might be finding it hard to stay active this time of year — especially when you have a desk job. I’m honored to be teaming up with Reebok to share a few of my tips that help me get in my steps and set health-focused goals,  even during the holiday craze.

We are always looking for new tips to achieve a healthier lifestyle so if you have something that has helped you, let us all know in the comments below. I know several of you like to read through the comments for inspo as well!

1. Set Reminders

Since leaving my job as a classroom teacher, I find it harder than ever to get in my steps or “stay active”. I mean, when you’re teaching 23 six-year-olds, you’re not exactly sitting around all day. Now that I’m in an “office” position, I have to set reminders on my phone to get up and walk around. I get in the zone and realize three hours have passed since I’ve stood up. There’s also an app “Stand Up! The Work Break Timer” that will send you little reminders when to get up. This could be handy for those of us who don’t have a smartwatch. Austin sent me this article to keep us motivated to walk the stairs or stand up while answering emails etc. Do any of you have a standing desk?

2. Get New Active Wear

This is my favorite way to stay motived. Really though, is there anything more exciting than wearing your new leggings or sneakers to the gym? I recently found the Classic Leather Ripple Altered Sneaker from Reebok (be sure to size down) and I love this vintage style. I wear my white sneakers all the time and these have proven to be just as versatile. I would also wear these with a t-shirt dress come spring. The Thermowarm Deltapeak Vest is also a great option to wear to and from the gym. It’s also a great option if you prefer to wear athleisure — like me.

3. Tell a Friend

There’s nothing like an accountability partner to give you the kick in the pants you need to stay active this season. Just make sure you guys are both on the same page — Austin and I have been known to both just quit altogether and that’s not good for anyone. Tell a co-worker or your best friend. Maybe you guys can motivate each other to create healthier habits.

4. “No-Show” Fees

I don’t about you, but nothing gets me more motivated to make it to class like that $25 “no-show” or late cancelation fee at Barre or Spin. I used to get really annoyed but now I have grown to “somewhat” appreciate them.

5. Clean Your House

Ok, I know — in what universe is this fun? But it needs to be done. I just vacuumed and Swiffered the entire upstairs and no joke broke a sweat. Cleaning the house is a must whether you are having house guests or packing up and heading out for the holiday, so why not make it count as your exercise for the day?  This is definitely a way to get your heart rate up if it’s too cold to go outside.

Here’s to a happy and healthy holiday season! xx Ashley

I use a Varidesk to stand up and work at my desk job. It’s a life saver or body saver.
I started 10 minutes each hour and now stand up for about half the day
