5 Habits I Follow For Healthy Hair
1. Cleanse + Blow Dry Strategically
In the past year, I’ve started only washing my hair 1-2x a week. I don’t do a lot of high-intensity workouts, so this works for me. Since I’m washing my hair less, my hair color lasts longer and my ends don’t get as dry as they did before. It took some time to “train” my hair to be less greasy in-between washes though. Using a scalp scrub 2-3 times a month and limiting the number of products I use on my hair helped. I also use this powdery dry shampoo on days 3 & 4.
2. Cool Water Rinse
To reduce frizz and lock in moisture, I rinse my conditioner with cold water. My hairstylist also told me this is a trick to maintain your hair color as it helps preserve color longer. I always feel like my hair looks better when I do this!
3. Give My Scalp Extra TLC
Like I mentioned above, taking care of your scalp is key to a healthy head of hair. It will also reduce flakes and buildup that are caused by stress, climate and irritation of products.
I use this scalp scrub 2-3 times a month (if you have not tried it, I highly highly recommend) and recently started using the new BeautyBio Healthy Scalp Serum. This serum helps reduce buildup and flakes, makes your hair appear fuller, and can help promote hair growth. I use 1 drop in the targeted area with the GloPRO Scalp Attachment (this set just came out for the holidays if you don’t already have the GloPRO). It can be used on wet or dry hair, I personally like to use on dry hair since it doesn’t weigh your hair down or leave any sticky/oily residue. It’s truly weightless. I have a little PP hair loss at my hairline so I’m hoping this helps with that.
4. Invest in Heat Protectants + Hydrating Oils
My hairstylist describes my hair as fine but thick. It also gets weighed down easily so I have to be pretty selective with what I put on my hair.
Blow-dry Products: I use Oribe Run-Through Detangler when my hair is wet before I blow dry. This makes it easy to run my Wet Brush through and protects my hair from heat. After it’s about 75% dry, I stop and add 2-3 drops of the Olaxplex No. 7 Bonding Oil to the ends (always apply oils on the ends or ears down). This oil smells amazing and works so well on my hair. It’s light so it’s not going to weigh your hair down.
Post Blow-Dry: I love the Dry Texture Spray (this is a nice set if you are a fan of Oribe). I really haven’t tried anything that compares. I also love the OUAI Finishing Cream on my ends after I’m done curling my hair. It has a light-medium hold and gives your hair some texture. I also feel like it helps prolong the curls the next day.
5. Minimize Hot Tools
Like I mentioned above, I only wash my hair 1-2 times a week. When I do, I let my hair air dry 25%, then go in with my blow dryer. This helps reduce the time I spend drying my hair and limits the heat. I also don’t use my curling iron every day. I try to save it for hair wash days or special occasions. I’ve also grown to love the leftover, loose waves you get on day 3, so I just go with it.
